National University of Medical Sciences(NUMS) participated in Prime Minister’s Youth Program (PMYP) marathon which was organized in the Federal Capital in collaboration with UAE Embassy, Islamabad for promotion of healthy activities among the students.
Dr. Amjad Sohail, and Ms. Salma Ayaz, Focal Persons NUMS Departments of Psychology (NDP) and Social and Behavioral Sciences (DSBS) respectively along with 37 students of their departments.
participated in the marathon which was held at Constitution Avenue, Islamabad on February 25,2023 from 10:00 am to 02:00.
Marathon is an excellent form of exercise, as it provides a great workout for both cardiovascular system and musculoskeletal system. The Eco focused marathon could be beneficial for improving heart health, aerobic fitness, burning calories, improving endurance and would strengthen muscles of the students. Additionally, marathon running can also help promote a healthy weight and reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
Participating in a marathon can help students develop physical fitness and provide them with an opportunity to set and achieve goals. It can also give them a sense of accomplishment and boost their self-confidence after successfully finishing the race. Marathons can teach students valuable lessons on perseverance, discipline, and teamwork - all important skills that will benefit them in life beyond school.
Participants were provided with t-shirts and other race materials prior to start of the race.
All participants received certificates of completion upon finishing the marathon while awards were also given to top finishers in each category (men/women).
